It's little things that excite me most - like finding a reliable "trick" that works when it comes to regulating blood glucose numbers. Silly, maybe. I don't care, I'm sharing. :)
We've been told to treat lows with fast-acting sugar. Juice is one of the first suggestions, but it's such a tiny amount, and our experience has been that different juices react differently when it comes to blood-sugar. LilBird loves Capri Sun as a treat. Capri Sun offers a few varieties with 8 grams of carbohydrates (as opposed to the 15+ gram options). It's a few ounces more than she'd get with a little 15-gram juice box. This morning I was surprised to find her 9 AM reading was 59. She wasn't ready to wake up, but did so at my urging and offering up a Capri Sun. She lounged for an hour after that, slowly waking up as she likes to do. At the next check, she was 100!
8-gram Capri Sun has yet to let us down! (And, of course, she's saving the packages for her big sister to make her a cool Capri Sun tote bag.)

I treat mine with those too. :) The kid in me loves them. ;) Get my pump this week! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteUpdate 2013: We do not use these any more. Sugar cubes are her current choice.
