Special thanks to our bakers: Jay, Dayla and Teri, Shane' (who baked through an allergy attack!), and Wilma (who kicked out a truck load of pre-orders!) and Millie (who baked despite having a scheduled surgery mid-week!) ... you all are absolutely awesome! Thank you, S2S, for hosting us again and to WrapPro Solutions for sponsoring our bake sale!
As I've posted before, our 8th team shirts were done through a Booster campaign (as I've used twice before). I chose this route because it's simple to bring our design to life, we can easily offer sales of the shirt to people who may not be able to walk with us, and a small portion of sales goes to JDRF. This has been a good move until this campaign; Booster dropped the ball repeatedly this go-around and their customer service was abhorrent, and as I type, I am still awaiting delivery of our shirts (the OneWalk is in the morning). This debacle has made for a very stressful last week. Fingers crossed it will be delivered today and there will be no problems with the order. Shout out to Southwest Automated Security for sponsoring our team shirts!
Meanwhile, we stand in second place in the Facebook team-shirt contest. So, if you're on Facebook, go like our photo on their page! Voting ends today.
As most of our close friends and family know, our beloved old pup, Nikky Doodle has been declining for some time. She came to us at age 3, just weeks after Lily was born. She has been blissfully under our feet for 13 years. She had gone partially blind, mostly deaf, was diagnosed with senility, and her appetite significantly diminished these past few weeks. She was never a complainer, so it was extra hard for us to let her go. She gave us the signs we needed to be at peace with the timing, and Wednesday was our last day with her little body (which is why we closed the bake sale early that night). So, hug us a little extra tight when you see us because our hearts are heavy as we wrap up this year's fundraising. We sure miss her quirky spirit around here.
The highlight of our week was a check-up. Since her last appointment three months ago, despite 6 pound and 1.5" growth, Lily's A1C was down to 6.6!!! FOR REAL, Y'ALL! I believe I've posted before about how much more challenging growth spurts make managing diabetes, but if you don't know ... It Is Hard. We have not yet squeezed in our celebratory ice cream outing for that awesome news yet, but we will soon! In related news, since my post about the belly-sites, we've abandoned that. Lily had a couple of failures with it and it made us both nervous. Just not sure she's quite ready for that. She has taken much more responsibility for her sugar checks, setting night time alarms for herself, and I am so very grateful for that. We look forward to new technology next year that promises to make T1 life a bit easier.
So far, our team has raised $1500+ this year for JDRF through online donations, two shirt sales, and the bake sale. I'll update when I get a grand total. Thank you for all of your support! You give us hope.
