Let's Walk!

Over the past year, LilBird has gained weight and grown taller. These are remarkable steps for a T1D kid (she didn't gain even an ounce in the two years before being diagnosed - this is a RED FLAG for Type 1 Diabetes).  Unfortunately, growth spurts are also extremely difficult to keep up with and cause us to tweak pump settings as we fight the low blood-sugars that result from increased expending of energy, day and night.  She also has maintained an excellent A1C.

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, she can no longer be denied insurance coverage for her pre-existing condition. Until you've had a chronically ill, uninsured child, you simply can't imagine the hardship that has been lifted.  She has healthcare coverage now, and for the money we've been spending on out-of-pocket supplies to keep her alive, our entire family has coverage!

JDRF has made huge strides in advancing treatment options and a cure, and we are so very thankful for this organization that gives HOPE to the millions of T1Ds and their families suffering from this horrible disease.  We are walking for the third year to support JDRF's efforts!
