"You guys rock!"

Really? Not too many days do I feel like we're rockin' the blood sugar control, but apparently we do! LilBird had her first endocrinology check-up of this year today. She's up to 3' 8", 43.4 pounds (woot!), and her A1C is 6.4! Not a single low in this past week, and only a few highs (nothing over or even really close to 300). No adjustments to bolus or basal rates (which I have tweaked a lot in the past month or so). I asked them to check her spotty bottom since I have no other bottoms to compare hers to. Despite the spots (which we can't avoid since she gets a set change every 3 days), her bottom "looks beautiful," meaning no hard spots have developed from overusing the same area. Nurse Sherry (who is a pumper also) was delightful - before today, I had only spoken with her over the phone.  I always hope it's her I get when I call because she is such a calming person (and usually if I am calling to speak to someone, I'm in a good bit of panic). She talked at length with LilBird, telling her how her daughter asks about LilBird often since she was one of her camp counselors and says LilBird was her favorite camper in the group. Of course, talk of camp is one of LilBird's favorite topics, and I volunteered that she loved camp so much she has expressed not wanting a cure because she fears that would be the end of camp. Both Dana and Sherry laughed at this and made sure LilBird understands that, even when there is a cure (not if but when), they will still have camp and "even when (she) is cured, there will be people who will be waiting to get that cure and they will need to talk to people just like (LilBird) to know they're going to be okay." Who rocks? The staff at OU Pediatric Endocrinology. Seriously!

  4. Hoorah! So glad for a good A1C... They say the test is for them to know how the kids are doing, but I feel like it's for me to find assurance that overall, we're taking good care of our kiddo!:)
